Inbox handoff between shifts
WhizSuite · 2026-08-10
A shift ends. A customer's question does not. The handoff is the bridge.
Leave the open items
List threads that still need an answer, who owns them, and anything promised. "Inbox is fine" is not a handoff if three people are waiting.
Link the thread. Descriptions without links force the next person to hunt.
Promises are inventory
If you said someone would reply tomorrow, that promise is now the next shift's job. Mark it. Broken promises in DMs feel personal because they are.
Do not promise a time the next shift does not work. Check the window.
Tone alerts
Flag a thread that is heated so the next person does not walk in cheerful. A single line of context prevents a tone-deaf reply.
Do not write a novel. The thread has the detail. You are marking the hazard.
Overlap by ten minutes
If two shifts exist, overlap them briefly so questions can be asked. A document-only handoff fails when the tool is confusing.
If you are a team of one, the handoff is a note to yourself for Monday. Future you is a worse mind reader than you think. Write the open thread as if a colleague who has never met this client will read it, because on a tired Monday that is who you are.
