The account manager is the gate
WhizSuite · 2026-09-06
Five staff members talking to one founder feels responsive. It is how contradictory yeses are born.
One thread outward
The account manager collects internal work and speaks to the client. Designers can join a planned call. They should not freelance side chats that promise dates.
Side chats feel like great service and then miss the calendar. If it was promised, it has to pass the gate the same day.
The gate is not a bottleneck prize
A gate that sits on messages for two days is failing. Define a same-day pass for notes that are already clear. The job is routing, not hoarding.
When the manager is out, the backup is named. A gate with no backup becomes a dare.
Translate both ways
Client language arrives fuzzy. Studio language arrives technical. The manager turns "make it warmer" into a change on a version, and turns "we need selects" into a date the client understands.
If translation stops, both sides think the other is difficult. Usually they are just using private vocabularies.
Do not sneak work past the gate
Scheduling a post because the designer is proud of it skips the client and the manager. Pride is not a lock. The scheduler owes the gate a status check.
Write that into the role, not into a speech after the incident.
